"The most disrespected person in America is the black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the black woman. The most neglected person in America is the black woman." -Malcolm X
When I was a young girl, I recall my sensitivity being referred to as “crocodile tears.” When I became an adult, my anxiety attacks were negated because I was expected to be able to be “strong.” In my experience, Black women are under-protected, while also expected to “handle it” all. Black Women Cry was created to bring awareness to mental health issues within the Black community, as well as to provide a space for Black Women to find validation in their experiences. Representation is important, and this blog is intentionally mean’t to provide that to Black women of all intersections (LGBTQ, Social Economic Status, Ages, Lifestyles, etc.). Post are scheduled to go out Mondays at 12:00 p.m.
This is also intended to be a shared space, therefore I welcome article submissions from Black Femmes/Women/LGBTQ Folks. If you’re interested in submitting please send me a message on the contact page.
